GOING FOR THE GREEN
The Going for the Green segment on the Golf Hawaii TV Show presents how WM – Waste Management, the largest recycler in the nation makes a difference in your neighborhood. Golf Hawaii also spotlights the many ways that Hawaii's golf courses have implemented green initiatives that keep our fragile island environment healthy.
The world, the United States and golf courses across the country are realizing the necessity to be proactive about addressing environmental issues. On the islands of Hawaii, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, environmental stewardship of the land has been a key development practice. Hawaii’s Golf Courses have also instituted many systems that adhere to environmental protection.
Many of Hawaii’s Golf Courses have implemented water management programs including the use of seashore paspalum turf grass that has been developed to use less water. Recycling programs are in place throughout many of the Hawaii resorts. Solar powered buildings and golf carts can be found at a number of golf courses. And several resort courses have been designated as certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuaries because of their water conservation efforts, wildlife management programs and minimal use of pesticides and herbicides.
