Ka‘anapali — Royal Ka‘anapali

From the day that Bing Crosby helped to usher in the Royal Kaʻanapali Course back in the early 60’s people knew Kaʻanapali was going to be a special place. Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus helped launch Kaʻanapali’s tournament legacy when they won the Canada Cup, now the World Cup only a couple of years later. Since then the Royal Kaʻanapali Course has been the home to numerous big events on both the LPGA and Champions Tour along with the Golf Channel’s Big Break and the Wendy’s Champions Skins Game.

The Royal Kaʻanapali Course, designed by the legendary architect Robert Trent Jones Sr. is truly one of his classics. As you would expect from Jones Sr the bunkering here is one of the most dominant features both visually and strategically. The fairways here are quite generous but there is a real premium on approach shots into the greens. The putting surfaces are large and undulating and precise shot making is required to keep the ball on the proper side of the hole.

The fifth hole on the Royal Kaʻnapali Course plays right out to the sea and is undoubtedly one of the best par 4’s in Hawaiʻi. Your tee shot must avoid the bunkers on the left but it is the approach shot to this narrow green that is most demanding. Concentrate on your game but also take a moment soak in this scenery.

Kaʻanapali Golf has a rich history and a bright and exciting future. You are sure to enjoy Hawaiʻi’s first neighbor island resort and still one of Hawaiʻi’s best.
