Oahu Golf

The island of Oahu is the heart of Hawaii and home to 80% of the states population. It is the most diverse of all the islands offering you all the sophisticated conveniences of the vibrant city of Honolulu ... and just a short drive from town ... the breathtaking natural beauty of the tropical countryside.

Oahu also boasts as many golf courses as all the other islands combined. Herewith are some of Oahu's best courses on the windward and leeward sides of the island.

Royal Kunia

The story behind Royal Kunia is a strange one. Designed by Robin Nelson in the early 90's the course laid dormant until 2002 due to permitting issues. When it did finally open the reviews were tremendous and guests were stunned by the dramatic views many of which are the best in this entire side of the island. And the golf holes here are arguably as good... like the sweeping downhill 9th which is a par 5 that can stretch to over 600 yards.

Ko Olina, Kapolei, Waikele, Coral Creek, Hawaii Prince

Oahu's sunny Ewa Plain is home to a number of excellent courses. Ko Olina is a sparkling resort that features a Ted Robinson designed course that is known for its water features and terrific par 3's. Ko Olina has hosted events on both the LPGA and Champions Tour.

Nearby another Ted Robinson design...the Kapolei Golf course. Kapolei's seashore paspalum grass provides great playing surfaces and the course is good enough that is also hosted an LPGA event, the Ladies Hawaiian Open for six consecutive years.

The Waikele Golf Course is not overly long but is a playful design. The fairways are rolling and the elevation changes sport great views of Pearl Harbor and the Pacific Ocean.

Coral Creek is a Robin Nelson design that lives by its name having been carved out of coral rock formations. The par 3 tenth is the signature hole and actually looks like it could have been built by Donald Trump. This hole is unique in that it lays totally below sea level.

The Hawaii Prince Golf Club is an Arnold Palmer designed 27 hole complex with three 9 hole layouts that can be played in different combinations. When you look back on a round at the Hawaii Prince you will certainly remember water, because it is seemingly everywhere.

Ewa Beach Golf Club

The Ewa Beach Golf Club is a wonderful facility that is known for its Kiawe lied fairways which is pretty rare for th Island of Oahu. Here at Ewa Beach you are greeted at the first tee by a little bit of Hawaiian history and culture. These small huts are called Kauhales and were used by the ancient Hawaiians who ventured from their homes in the higher lands to come down to the seas for fish. You'll also find a neat little short game practice area here and the clubhouse facility is one of the best on the island.

Ala Wai

The Ala Wai is located right in the heart of Waikiki. When you come here fasten your seat belts and get ready for a wild ride... because this s the busiest golf course in the world.

Kahuku

Not only is the Kahuku Golf Course totally ocean front, but its also as much of a true links as you'll find anywhere in Hawaii. Like the truest of links layouts, British Open venue Royal Lytham.

Turtle Bay

Just down the road a few miles is the famous Turtle Bay Resort. As the current home of events on both the Champions and LPGA Tours the Palmer Course gets most of the attention. But the Fazio Course is a good one too. This is the par 3 11th hole which takes you right out to the sea.

Luana Hills

At Luana Hills near the windward side town of Kailua. Pete Dye has designed a course right in the middle of a rain forest. You'll feel like you're playing golf in a jungle because you literally are. The course requires imagination and shot making and somewhere along the way your imagination might just lead you to think you're about to see a dinosaur come out from behind the green.

Ko'olau

We finish our Oahu Golf tour at Ko'olau named after the majestic mountain range beneath whose slopes this course is nestled. This is another jungle golf experience with massive elevation changes, deep ravines, numerous forced carries and walls of dense foliage lining the narrow fairways. When you come to Ko'olau be sure to bring plenty of golf balls because with a slope of 162 this is one of the hardest courses in the world.
