Poipu Bay Resort

At Poipu on the island of Kauai’s sunny southern coast on 50 oceanfront acres bordering Keoneloa Bay you will encounter one of the most highly regarded resorts in Hawaii, the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa. The 602-room hotel is a classic and the staff’s warm welcome and attention to detail will make you feel immediately at home. The guest rooms are all about comfort and the view …with the majority of rooms boasting ocean views from your private lanai.

Steps from your room five acres of saltwater lagoons, three fresh water pools, and a perfect stretch of golden sand beach will enchant every member of the family. You can enjoy a wealth of water activities around the pools. When you are ready to relax you will be pampered at the Anara Spa. The spa treatment rooms take full advantage of the open-air setting and the treatments feature natural custom blended healing products. This award winning spa facilities is second to none.

The Poipu Bay Golf Course is one of Robert Trent Jones Jr.’s best designs. As testament the best players in the world competed here at the PGA Grand Slam of Golf for 13 seasons.

Robert Trent Jones Jr. was given an incredible piece of property here at Poipu Bay and he made the most of it. The golf course encompasses 210 acres and sits on a verdant plateau with rolling terrain. The environment here can best be described as rural because you are literally playing golf in the countryside. Farms and ranches surround the course so there is no feeling of hustle and bustle here. Emerald green mountains stand tall overlooking Poipu Bay and the vistas of the south Kauai coastline and the mighty blue Pacific are dramatic.

The Poipu Bay Golf Course opened back in 1991 and can be stretched to over 7,100 yards from the back tees. For middle and high handicappers though, the course is very playable. There are several factors here that will allow you to play some of your best golf at Poipu Bay. First, the ground is firm so you will get plenty of distance off the tee. The turf is lush so the lies are good and for the most part the greens are open in the front so you can roll the ball up if you choose to. And with Poipu’s fickle trade winds you probably will.

Aside from the spectacular views the most dominating feature at Poipu Bay is the bunkering. The architect has done a masterful job of making the bunkers both strategic and visually attractive. The signature hole is number sixteen one of the longest and most beautiful par 4’s in Hawaii. Typically the trade winds will shorten the distance here but there are many aspects of the hole that can challenge you. An ancient rock wall runs down the entire left side and was built by the early Hawaiians. This feature reminds you not only of the history of this place but also of the trouble on the left.

Poipu Bay’s practice facility is excellent, and offers multiple areas to work on all parts of your game. And your round isn’t complete until you experience the terrific 19th hole and Poipu’s expansive clubhouse.

The Poipu Bay Golf Course and the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa … don’t miss this remarkable destination on your next visit to the islands.
